Nike, Inc. - PLP Product Line Planning

Designed to unite Nike's Product Line Managers under one roof — PLP - Product Line Planning streamlined the entire footwear and apparel product creation workflow into a single, collaborative platform, eliminating silos and bringing clarity to a complex process.

problem

Nike's Product Line Managers and Merchants lacked a unified workspace to manage footwear and apparel product creation workflows — relying on a fragmented mix of spreadsheets, email chains, and disconnected tools to collaborate across teams. This decentralized approach led to miscommunication, inconsistent data, and delays in the product creation process, underscoring the critical need for a single, centralized platform to bring people, data, and workflows together.

solution

PLP was designed to eliminate the chaos of disconnected workflows by delivering a single, centralized platform where Nike's Product Line Managers could collaborate, plan, and execute footwear and apparel product creation in one place. By consolidating scattered tools and communication channels into a unified experience, PLP established a reliable source of truth that streamlined cross-functional collaboration, reduced data inconsistencies, and accelerated the product creation process — giving teams the clarity and efficiency needed to move faster and with greater confidence.

I joined the PLP project mid-flight, inheriting an established foundation of preliminary research, initial design work, and one completed beta test. From there, I focused on refining existing research findings, designing key core features, and advancing the beta testing program. Collectively, the PLP design team leveraged Miro to collaboratively prioritize and align on the features most critical to the platform's next phase of development.

MY CONTRIBUTION — COMMENTS Through the team's initial research, three major focus areas were identified for the platform: a custom view, a list view, and a detailed product display. Within this framework, I was specifically tasked with leading the design of a commenting feature — a key functionality aimed at enabling real-time collaboration and communication directly within the PLP tool. For the implementation, I leveraged existing components from Nike's EDS (Enterprise Design System) component library to design a comment box integrated into the PLP's product detail page, ensuring consistency with Nike's broader design standards while delivering a seamless user experience.

For the implementation, I leveraged existing components from Nike's EDS (Enterprise Design System) component library to design a comment box integrated into the PLP's product detail page, surfacing via a side modal that slides out from the right side of the screen — creating a non-disruptive, contextually accessible experience that aligned seamlessly with Nike's established design standards.

MY CONTRIBUTION — REQUEST ACCESS & PROFILE SETUP In parallel with the team's broader research and design efforts, I led the design of the Request Access and Profile Setup flows for PLP. These features were crafted using a combination of forms, dropdowns, and modals, with all styling and components derived from Nike's Enterprise Design System (EDS) — ensuring a cohesive, on-brand experience that seamlessly integrated with the broader platform.
